The X2 Omni robot vacuum-mop is the most recent in the Ecovacs line of hybrid robot vacuum mops. This model that is wet-dry is fitted with Ecovacs’ new AIVI 3D 2.0 lidar system that provides improved mapping and obstacles avoidance. The system is dual-laser LiDAR — similar to what you’ll find in self-driving vehicles — and can scan an area of up to 32 feet in 270 degrees. That translates into more precise mapping, quicker response times, and higher cleaning accuracy.
It also has a rotating mopping pad constructed of chenille, which makes it easier to scrub tough areas more effectively as opposed to traditional mopping. During my tests, the X2 Omni washed its pad in just a few seconds and was ready to go. I noticed that it was more precise than other models which seemed to follow a grid around rooms. It was capable of navigating my room’s with its corners and edges as well as create a “Zambani pattern” that ran up and down the middle of the room. It also returned to its OMNI station regularly to empty the trash bin and wash the mop with hot water prior to starting another clean-up job.
Like other Ecovacs products The X2 Omni is easy to set up and start using. Simply snap the dock into place, plug it in and connect it to your WiFi network at home. It only takes about a minute. Then, you’re able to launch the app and get started with your first cleaning project. I was able to customize my floor plan in less than 15 minutes. This included creating restricted areas for sweeping and mopping and rearranging the layout of furniture on the wall and much more. The X2 Omni performed admirably in my tests. It scored well in the areas of pet hair removal as well as debris removal, and also had near-perfect results for edge and crevices cleaning.

It features enhanced intelligence, multiple map support, LIDAR scanning and twin-turbine technology that automatically adjusts for the floor you’re cleaning. It’s a mid-range robot cleaner that’s attractive even if its claim of being a one-stop-shop for floor cleaning doesn’t come true.
The X8 Hybrid appears to be an ordinary robotic cleaner from the top. It is a circular design with sweeping wheels, and an elevated sensor. Flip it over, however there’s an electric floor brush and a single side sweeper brush that pushes dirt from the edges into the main path of the robot’s mouth. It’s smaller than the main brushes of the iRobot Roomba S9 which I found made it easier to reach under chairs and couches.
The mapping system is quite sophisticated that allows you to create no-mop zones and specific cleaning zones. It has a tendency of hitting objects, including its own charging station, and isn’t the best vacuum mop for pet hair at climbing over carpets. It was effective in picking up pet hair from bare floors. In our tests, it picked up 89.5 percent of cat litter.
While it’s controllable via the app and the app, the X8 Hybrid also comes with physical buttons on its base that allow you to choose a cleaning mode and switch the robot off or on. You can also use these to set no-go zones and see real-time maps. It’s a bit chatty as well, and will let you know what it’s going to do next (“start cleaning”) or even warn you that something is wrong (it doesn’t have enough power to charge, for instance).

This high-tech model sucks up pet hair, kibble, and other debris with top-notch performance and is able to effortlessly maneuver around furniture legs. It’s still able get under furniture and into the corners. Mopping mode performed very well in our tests, picking up stray hair and other debris.

Shark’s iQ isn’t as sturdy as the Roomba S9, but it is superior in general at getting rid of pet hair on all surfaces. It cleans floors that are bare more efficiently and does a decent job on carpets with low pile, and it makes use of smart-pathing navigational technology for better maneuverability. It can be positioned to a specific location, and has a suite of advanced automation features, including no-go zones and schedules. It can even to pause and resume cleaning sessions, so it’s perfect for homes with pets.
The self-cleaning brushroll eliminates tangles and can carry up to 30 day’s worth of dirt. It has a set angled side brushes to reach into corners, as well as a multi-stage filter system that captures dust, allergens and dander.
