Three Wheeled Buggies
Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or jogging. Their compact design makes it easy to maneuver even in tight places.
If you want a smooth ride with your baby, select models with 360deg front wheels that swivel. However, they are more prone to punctures so be prepared with an repair kit.
Sturdy frame
Figures have just been released showing that the three-wheeled buggie – a symbol of the noughties of more money than sense – is in steep decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking stylish.
The general idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy and rough pavements. Having larger wheels both front and back makes it much easier to manoeuvre and more stable when walking downhill or over difficult terrain.
MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with a newborn baby and a 3 wheel stroller-year-old child and found it extremely robust. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass, and rough pavements, aswell as dirt tracks and kerbs. She said that it felt sturdy to push, and extremely solid on rough terrain. Its tyres, which are inflatable and need to be pumped up occasionally and have a suspension built-in. This was extremely comfortable for my children.
The shape and size of the seat is a further factor to consider. It is important for the seat to be large enough for your child to feel at ease and to lie down. Certain three-wheel buggies have an option to lie flat completely while others allow a parent facing one.
The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road or wet walks. This buggy is ideal for a single child starting from birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family grows. It is suitable for toddlers and infants from birth to age 4, and includes a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets in the hood, and a handy pouch on the back of the seat unit.
Wheels with a greater diameter
Larger wheels will give your buggy more stability when driving on rough terrain. This is perfect for buggies that are off-road. They also make it easier to maneuver the pushchair in tight spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies come with swivel wheels at the front to assist you in navigating tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for increased speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you bump against a tree or a kerb. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to avoid hitting it.
Many 3 wheeled pushchairs have air-filled tyres, which allows them to navigate a wide range of terrains. They are also more flexible than 4 wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they’re susceptible to punctures and you’ll need an repair kit, spare inner tube, and pump on hand.
Mountain Buggy Core, Venicci Carbo and Venicci Carbo lux are among our top 3-wheelers. Both buggies feature larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, “perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles” and are able to easily go up and down kerbs. The buggies also come with suspension that Kath says “smooths out bumps extremely effectively”.
The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make some buggies quite broad and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This can be an issue especially if you’re using it to an exercise bike or to to get through doorways that are narrow when you’re out and out and about. Fortunately, many models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels to create more compact storage.
Easy to Manoeuvre
A three-wheeler can be more maneuverable for a child. They are designed to ensure that the front wheels can rotate at a moment’s notice, and are easy to navigate, making them ideal for challenging terrain such as parks, cobblestones as well as bumpy roads and dirt tracks.
MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her toddler, and she reported: “The Terrain is a joy to maneuver on rough terrain. The swivel wheel in the front was especially helpful.” I was also amazed by the way it handled kerbs when using the hand-operated break. It was extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven terrain.”
The only drawback to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy can sometimes make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something to be aware of when your home is one of the cities. If this is an issue then a 4-wheeled buggy could be a better option for you.
Bumper bar
Bumper bars will protect your child from bumps and scrapes when they are out and out and about. These bumper bars are easy to install and will help your child feel safe and secure out and about.
The bumper bar is designed to complement the sleek lines of your Slim Twin stroller. It features a soft, padded surface that provides a comfortable place for your child to grasp onto during walks. The durable construction and sturdy design ensures that your child can enjoy strolling around town without fearing of falling out of the buggy or leaning too far ahead.
The sling seat is in the frame, snugly instead of sitting on top like modular seats. It provides the lower centre of gravity at the appropriate height for your baby and also providing an excellent weight distribution to facilitate kerb pop (it takes much less effort to push the buggy up and over a curb than you might think). MFM reviewer Kath found it coped really well with grass and cobbles and is a great choice for jogging thanks to its lockable swivel front wheel that can be locked and air filled tyres.
With a stylish and sophisticated design this bumper bar will surely attract attention wherever you go. It’s available in a range of finishes and colours to fit your personal style. It comes with a simple quick-release mechanism that makes it easy to install and remove the bumper bar as necessary. The bumper bar is also easy to clean as it is constructed from durable materials. This makes it an excellent option for families that want an attractive and secure accessory for their stroller.
Comfort
A 3 wheel double pushchair-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle for maneuverability and performance. With the perfect geometry and engineering, as well as weight distribution this type of buggy can be able to turn at a moment’s notice and be a breeze to steer using just one hand. Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous stability standards and tests as buggies with 4 wheels.
Designed with fabric sling seat placed snugly within the frame instead of sitting on top like modular seats, the Sport’s clever design allows it to have a lower center of gravity at the right height for your child, giving you a more comfortable push, a less hefty curb pop (you don’t require as much weight or effort to lift the hood of your buggy up and over a curb) and a better stability and balance. With 16″ rear wheels, the lockable front wheel, and air-filled tyres which allow for a more smooth, comfortable jog.
As the only pushchair that is all-terrain in our collection to come with a parent facing seat that can also be used as a carrycot or car seat to ensure the future of your family and enjoy every adventure starting at day’s end and into the future – all within the footprint of a single buggy!
Kath who was our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the space of this buggy. There’s a big easily accessible basket that’s quite spacious for such a small buggy as well as an easy-to-use pouch that zips up on the back of the seat unit and even 2 smaller mesh pockets under the hood for your phone and keys.
