This is one of the most powerful robot vacuums we have seen in our tests and a very popular option. It removes dirt, pet hair and crumbs effortlessly on hardwood floors, but also is a pro at cleaning carpets. Its Power Boost mode increases suction automatically, which helps get those rug stains out of hiding.

You can control this Roomba remotely through the iRobot app to schedule cleaning sessions and set up virtual barriers to prevent it from entering areas you don’t want it enter. It is able to detect the stairs and navigate them and return to the docking stations to recharge if its battery gets depleted. Unlike previous Roomba models, this model can keep track of where it left off and re-run an earlier clean. It also runs straight lines to increase its efficiency.

iRobot Roomba 960S

It also has an effective cleaning system that has ten times the power-lifting suction of older Roombas and uses a dual-swiveling brush to reach corners and get under furniture. It will even automatically clean your floors after it has vacuumed.

It’s a little loud, however, particularly when you’re using the carpet boost feature. We measured it at 80 dB–about as loud as an aircraft that is flying in the direction of props. You can create an electronic fence to keep it out of sensitive areas, like the dog’s food bowl and water bowls.
