Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are ideal for walking around the neighborhood or running. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily, even in tight spaces.

If you are looking for a smooth ride on your pram, choose models with 360deg front wheels that can swivel. They are susceptible, however to punctures. Make sure you have an repair kit.

Sturdy frame

New figures show that the three-wheeled buggies that were the symbol of the decade that had more money than common sense, are in steep decline. They’ve been replaced with four-wheelers which can handle a wider variety of terrain, while still looking elegant and easy to push.

The basic idea is that the bigger the wheels, the easier it will be for your buggy to deal with bumpy ground and rough pavements. The larger wheels on both the front and back also makes it much easier to maneuver and more stable when walking downhill or on rough terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tested this buggy with a newborn baby as well as a child who was 3 years old and found it extremely robust. It was able to withstand cobbles, grass and rough pavements as well as dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said that “it feels sturdy to push and is very stable when traversing difficult terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable and require occasional pumping) have suspension built-in which was extremely comfortable for my kids.

Another thing to think about is the seat size and shape. It is important for the seat to be large enough for your child to be comfortable and to allow them to lie down. Some three-wheel buggies have a lie-flat option that allows your child to lie flat and face you, while other buggies only allow a parent-facing one.

A great choice for tackling off-road or muddy walks is the Roma Atlas. This buggy is ideal for a single child from birth, and can be adapted to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers until age 4 and includes a bumper bar, raincover, an improved 5-point harness, and a large cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a decent-sized basket, zip pockets inside the hood, and an attractive pouch at the rear of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on uneven terrain, which is ideal for buggies designed for off-road use. In addition, they allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. A lot of three-wheeled buggies come with rotating front wheels that aid you in maneuvering around corners with ease, whereas others are designed for running and have fixed front wheels that lock to improve the speed and stability at which they can be pushed. This also helps in the event that you hit the roots of a tree or stray curb, since the front wheel will rise up a bit to prevent you from hitting it.

A lot of 3 wheeler stroller wheel pushchairs have air filled tyres which means they can be used on a variety of terrains and are much more flexible than four wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they’re susceptible to punctures, so you’ll need to have an repair kit, spare tube and pump in your bag.

Some of our favourite 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. Both buggies feature larger wheels that, as per MFM reviewer Kath, “perform really well on grass, gravel tracks and market town cobbles” and are able to easily move up and down kerbs. They also have a suspension system that according to her “smoothes out bumps very effectively”.

Buggies with larger wheels may be quite large, and they may be a challenge to fit into tight spaces. This can be an issue when you’re using it for a jogger or you need to be able to get through narrow doorways when out and out and about. The majority of models come with small folding options that permit you to take off the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to manoeuvre

One of the major advantages to a three wheel buggy is that it is much more maneuverable especially with a child in tow. The way in which they are built means that the front wheels rotate on a dime and are really maneuverable which makes them perfect for difficult terrain such as parks, cobbles, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a Kinderkraft HELSI 3-Wheeler Baby Stroller in Gray with her toddler. she reported: “The Terrain is a pleasure to drive on uneven terrain. The front swivel wheel was particularly helpful.” I was also impressed with how well it coped with kerbs, especially when using the brake operated by hand. I found it to be extremely stable when going downhill or on uneven ground.”

The only downside to this amazing maneuverability is that the larger wheels of a 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to fit into tight spaces. This is something to be aware of if your home area is one of the cities. If this is a problem then a 4-wheeled buggy could be the better option for you.

Bumper bar

It provides the lowest center of gravity at the ideal height for your newborn and also providing an excellent weight distribution to facilitate kerb pop (it requires less effort to push the buggy up and pushchairsandprams over a curb than you might think). MFM reviewer Kath said it’s ideal on cobbles and grass. It’s also a great alternative for running, thanks to its air-filled tyres as well as a the lockable swivel wheel.

Comfort

A 3-wheel buggy is a great off-road vehicle for handling and performance. With the perfect design and weight distribution, this type of buggy can be able to turn at a moment’s notice and be easy to steer using just one hand; and all Mountain Buggies meet the same rigorous stability standards and tests as buggies with four wheels.

Designed with fabric sling seat placed snugly within the frame instead of over it like modular seats, the Sport’s smart design permits it to have a lower center of gravity that is the perfect height for your child, delivering you an easier push, a less hefty curb pop (you don’t require any effort or weight to push the hood of your buggy up and over the curb) and a greater balance and stability. With the massive rear wheels measuring 16 inches, lockable swivel front wheel and air filled tyres that require only occasional pumping for smooth, bump-free rides over rough terrain and a smoother, more comfortable jog.

As the only all-terrain pushchair in our collection with a parent facing seat that can also take the form of a car seat or carrycot and a car seat, you can ensure the future of your family and take pleasure in every moment of your day and into the future – all within the footprint of one buggy!

Kath, our MFM reviewer, also appreciated the space of this buggy. There’s a nimble, large basket that is quite spacious for a buggy that’s this big. Additionally, there’s an excellent pouch on the back seat unit, as well as two smaller mesh pockets beneath the hood to keep your phone and keys.
